Today started out as a good day, then turned somewhat sour. I helped one of my classmates (Angie) move into our complex thismorning, which was cool. Laura and I got some much needed groceries. Then I checked the mail.
My passport renewal was sent back to me because I hadn't included some little fee that wasn't mentioned in the application's checklist. Now I have to pay for rush processing, which is an additional $60, if I want to guarantee having it on time.
The second piece of bad news in the mail was a part to fix the computer. I put it in and now I get the display, but no backlight. This means one of two things. Either the inverter is damaged as well, or the flex cable I ordered is defective. No I have to order both parts to swap each out individually and find out which is actually needing replacement. If the cable ends up being defective it will go back. It is just very annoying that it showed up looking ghetto to begin with.
To get the computer off of my mind I decided to watch a movie I had stumbled across at the library. The movie is Tarnation, a self-made documentary about a boy growing up in a family with serious mental illness and abuse. The kid began filming his family when he was 11, then in the 80s got into the underground film and club scene by disguising himself as a goth girl to escape being rejected as an underage boy. The documentary has a very gritty artistic style. However, while the film was an awesome piece of work, it wasn't much of an upper as you can imagine. Tom, you should check this film out. I think you'd like it. The story reminds me of a tv documentary done on club kid murderer Michael Alig.

I hadn't heard of it. We were at the library getting some books for Laura and it was sitting on the shelf near the disability books. I took it home for no real reason and was surprised.
